Class Dojo is how we regularly communicate with parents about your child's learning.
Phoenix and Raven Classrooms
Phoenix and Raven classrooms are located next to Nursery to the right-hand side of the main entrance. We access through the gate at the top of Lonsdale Road.
Take a tour of our classrooms. We have two light, airy classrooms, one of which is brand new for September 2023! We have lots of different resources available to explore inside and outside, including:
- mark making, writing and drawing equipment
- loose parts for role play, maths and construction
- sand, water and malleable stations
- creative equipment such as paint, chalk and oil pastels
- large equipment for balancing, building, pedalling and swinging
Our Outdoor Facilities
We have two beautiful outside classrooms; both our newly equipped quad and our larger area with a bike track and planting areas.
Our Day
In Reception we start our day the minute the children enter school. The children start the day with a shared carpet-time activity before going off to explore the learning environment.
The format of the day varies over the course of the year - in September we are mainly play-based as the children learn the routines of school, form relationships with their peers and teachers and become more independent. As time passes, children will engage with more adult-led activities, spending longer doing activities at tables, in provision or on the carpet areas.
In Reception we teach a range of lessons. Literacy is story-based, where we practise our listening, concentration and speaking skills. During phonics, we learn the sounds which make up our language, and learn to read and write. We follow the Supersonic Phonic Friends scheme. Further information can be found here Supersonic Phonics Friends During Maths we develop number sense through subitising, counting, building, singing and investigating. In our Topic sessions we learn about the world around us; both in terms of our local area, country and world. This covers lots of elements of Science and PSHE. We also have PE, Music and RE sessions.
Our outdoor learning provides the children with the opportunity to discover, problem solve, use their imagination and creative skills on a larger scale.
We love to listen to stories and sing songs. We read and sing everyday through the wide range of activities such as traditional songs, making up our own stories or even listening to others. Stories and songs are a great way to develop language and listening skills.

Homework
Homework will not be given out on a weekly basis - instead we would encourage you to read to /with your child, sing songs, visit the park or library and do baking or creative activities together. Children may be given specific tasks to practise at home - such as reading tricky words or watching videos of the phonic sounds. We will share photos of your child's learning via Class Dojo and urge you to do the same - we love to hear all about exciting events from home.
During the first term children will be given their first home reader book in a plastic book bag. We ask parents to support their child to read and enjoy these books as often as possible. In school we provide weekly opportunities to read in a small group with a member of staff.
Fabric book bags for home readers are available to purchase from the school office.
We actively encourage reading and storytelling at home and will deliver in school events to support children’s learning experiences at home.
Summer Term
Jumpers and coats must be labelled.
PE will be on a Monday. Children should wear their PE kit to school (light blue TShirt, navy joggers / leggings, trainers and school jumper / cardigan).
